|Jazz trumpeter and composer Randy Brecker has helped shape the sound of jazz, R&B and rock for more than four decades. His trumpet and flugelhorn performances have graced hundreds of albums by a wide range of artists like Chet Baker, Paul Simon, Steely Dan and even Frank Zappa.
By 1975, Randy and his brother Michael formed their own group, the Brecker Brothers Band. The band garnered seven Grammy nominations between 1975 and 1981. In 1994 they won the Grammy for Out of The Loop. Their eponymous first record, which Randy wrote, arranged and produced, featured his now classic composition “Some Skunk Funk.”
In 2007 Michael died of leukemia. To honor his brother, Randy re-introduced the familiar faces of Brecker Brothers Band members from the past and their special brand of music, with gitarist Dean Brown, keyboardist George Whitty, bassist Chris Minh Doky en drummer Dave Weckl. The Brecker Brothers Band Reunion, as the band is called, toured through Europe in the summer of 2013.
